Linda Radtke, alto, is one
of the original members of Counterpoint, and has
participated in all eight of their recording projects.
She also sings in Robert DeCormier's vocal quartet,
Ah!Capella, sponsored by the Vermont Symphony Orchestra,
which has presented over 180 programs in Vermont public
schools, introducing students to a variety of vocal
styles. A native of
Seneca Falls, NY, and a graduate of Rutgers University
and the University of Vermont, Radtke is a well-known
soloist in Vermont, especially in sacred music and
oratorio. She has appeared as a soloist with the Vermont
Symphony Orchestra, the Vermont Mozart Festival, the
Oriana Singers, the Dartmouth Chamber Singers, and the
Vermont Philharmonic with the Alto Rhapsody by Brahms.
In theatre, favorite
roles include the title role in Carmen, the
Mother Abbess and Maria in separate productions of
Sound of Music, Dulcinea in Man of La Mancha,
and Guinevere in Camelot, and the Sorceress in
Dido and Aeneus. She has performed almost all of the
alto roles in Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, and is a
dedicated Savoyard.
The state of Vermont
sponsored Radtke's historical research into Vermont
songs, resulting in a state-wide tour of Two Hundred
Years of Vermont Popular Music. With pianist Arthur
Zorn, she presents Vermont songs through the Vermont
Humanities Council's Speakers' Bureau; a recording is
due out this summer. She has presented all-Schumann and
all-Ives recitals–and has a special affection for Rogers
and Hart standards. Radtke produces and hosts weekly
programs "Vermont Notes" and "Classic Vermont Choral
Hour" on WCVT (101.7), Vermont's classical music
station, which highlights musical events in the area.
She recently retired
after 30 years teaching in the public schools and lives
in an old farmhouse in Middlesex with her husband, Bob
Jervis. |
